I really want Turo to be good. If it works anywhere, it should work in Los Angeles where they have more cars than any other city. Given that this is the 3rd attempt, I’ve officially given Turo more tries than I give actual people before they’re dead to me.
My first rental was not where it was supposed to be. It was parked 2 miles from where they said it would be (next to my work) which added a half hour and a few dollars to grab a Lyft. They required like 15 photos before you set off, which is understandable for most cars, but it was the most beater beaten 200k mile Chevy Colorado moving truck you’ve ever seen. After setting off, they texted asking for more pictures and I had to pull off the highway to get MORE pictures. I was 1.5 hours late.
Second rental was in Boston. The car broke the week before my rental and wasn’t going to be fixed in time. Turo support found me another car (there were only like 2 cars left in all of Boston), and as they were finalizing details, she said “and just to finish off, you’re good to authorize an additional $800 on the rental, right?”. Uh no. No I am not. I ended up hang ing up and booking a real rental. Which also cost me a lot but not + $800 on a $200 rental .
So third time’s the charm. I’ve rental a F-Type Coupe R for my trip to LA. I’ve got an interview on Tuesday. Sunday and Monday I’ll be cruising around in this - I hope.

I tried Turo once when a city was totally out of rental cars from all online agencies. Dude just never showed up or answered my texts. Good luck with this attempt!

Good luck! I’ve never tried it, but would be weirded out and paranoid driving someone else’s personal car so I don’t intend to.

It seems like a lot of people in LA run mini car rental agencies through it

I keep thinking I’d like to try Turo. I can’t imagine renting my car on Turo, however. Can’t. Imagine.
I’d like to try out a Kia Stinger base model.

I could hook you up with a Kia Forte base...

I have used Turo with mostly excellent results. LA was by far the easiest going rental, because they have special Turo Lots right by the airport. Turo paid for my $20 uber to the lot, and the pick up and drop off was handled by Turo employees who took photos in addition to my own photos. Rented a Durango RT and it was an absolute blast in LA. I recently went to Miami and rented a Mustang GT, and I unfortunately had the battery go bad after 1 afternoon with the car. My host was very communicative, and Turo support was mostly quick with finding a solution. I ended up returning the car 1.5 days early, but I never got a full refund for the ~2 days I couldn’ t really use the car. I got back $97 of the $348 I paid, because Turo’s accounting dept wouldn’ t authorize 2 full days of the rental. They’re only allowed to refund 1 day, and the host has to approve for 2 days. My host had no objection to that, and contacted their support to verify that. Unfortuna tely, it seems Turo decided on the dollar amount, and came up with $97. Thats nowhere near 2/3 of $348, and I plan to contact my credit card company for a charge- back because thats BS and I have everything in writing through turo messages, texts, and emails. We’ll see how that goes. To replace the Mustang, I rented a BMW Z4 convertible and was able to pick the car up in 2 hours short notice (8:30pm-10:30pm) from the nicest guy I’ve ever done business with in Hollywood, Florida. Cost like $130 for about a day and had 0 issues in that instance, he even waived the fee for dropping the car off at MIA and included some beach gear for our last day there. He also convinced me to quit my job! So it’s kind of a mixed bag, you just have to make sure you have a great host and hope nothing mechanically goes wrong. Document everything, and only rent from 5-star Top Hosts. Being 22 years old, I could never rent anything anywhere near as exciting from Hertz or other corporate rental companies, and I still highly recommend Turo.

I’ve rented from two different hosts on Turo and had excellent results all three times (rented from the same host twice). I’m using it again for my next LA trip in three weeks. Good luck!

Came here to praise LA’s Turo process. Got my Flex through them with a breeze. Undefeated in good Turo experiences. They key checking out the quality of photos, and reviews. If there are few photos, and they look compa rable to a craigslist ad, I wouldn’t recommend it. I wrote a Review of my Turo/Flex experience a while back, and used the owner’s photos because they were such good quality.

I lol’d at that line. I’ve never tried Turo because to me that sounds like an insurance nightmare, but good luck to you! I hope the Jaguar works out!

Haha, I feel like Turo should put that line on their website. Customer testimonials are SO in right now.

Some of the online reviews (especially from people renting their cars) are horrendous.

I don’t think there’s a .g if to illustrate the range of emotions I felt after reading some of these lmao.
How are they still in business?
